Industry Information : Accommodation

Various types of accommodation are available to foreign language students visiting Malta.

Hosting Family

  • Host Families
Over 40% of students decide they would like to experience the hospitality of a Maltese family. Living with a Maltese host family is an excellent way to practise English as well as to learn more about life in Malta. For younger students in particular, it adds peace of mind that these are being looked after in a safe family environment. English Language schools carefully select the host families they work with and visit them from time to time to ensure that standards remain high. Many host families live within walking distance of the school. Where there is a greater distance schools provide transport for younger students.

FELTOM member schools have procedures in place to ensure compatibility of host families and their guests. Should students lodge a complaint, every effort is made to resolve any difficulty during the first few days of the stay.   Families wanting to host students should apply directly to the school of their choice for further guidance on requirements and procedures. Should the school decide that the host family is able to provide the required standard of accommodation, an interview and inspection of the property will follow. If this is successful, an application will be made to the Malta Tourism Authority for a host family licence. All host families must be licensed by the MTA.

  • School Residences and Apartments
Many schools offer their own shared self catering apartments while others offer residential accommodation. Shared self catering apartments provide the opportunity of meeting and living with other students from around the world as well as allowing more independence and personal space.

  • Hotels
Malta can offer students a number of 2, 3, 4 and 5 star hotels situated close to many language schools.
