Study English in Malta

FELTOM (Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations Malta), is a self-regulating association of the major schools in Malta. It is officially recognised by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Tourism and holds consultative status with the Malta Tourism Authority.
FELTOM stands for quality in schools by setting, improving and ensuring the maintenance of standards in all respects of English language stays in Malta, and member schools are governed by a Code of Academic Conduct which incorporates a mechanism for customer protection.
The Federation’s schools are responsible for some 70% of all EFL students registered annually in Malta with Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Russia and Switzerland being the principal markets. The majority of students are adults and over 18 years of age who enroll for short, medium and long term courses throughout the entire year. Younger students follow short-term courses mainly at Easter, spring and during the summer months between June and September.
FELTOM member schools offer a selection of courses, which differ from one another in class group size, number of lessons per week and free time extra-curriculum activities. All schools offer accommodation, particularly at English speaking Maltese host families. Educational and commercial activities in Malta are governed by legislation and national regulations. Every English language school and every host family must possess a valid licence to operate legally. This should be requested prior to entering into any negotiations. The licences are issued respectively by the Ministry of Education and The Ministry of Tourism according to national accreditation schemes introduced upon strong recommendations by FELTOM. Each Ministry is responsible for monitoring licences under its charge and for ascertaining compliance with the regulations. Malta is the first and only EFL learning destination in the world to benefit from such legislation and to protect all EFL students. In addition, FELTOM members, as promoters of quality standards, provide the student with additional safeguards beyond all other regularly licenced schools. Malta is the first and only EFL learning destination in the world to benefit from such legislation and to protect all EFL students. |
